The Big Wave

The Big Wave is an educational/ fictional silent comic book about a theorised end to Dogger Bank. Dogger Bank was a large land mass that connected mainland Europe to the British Isles. The comic is aimed at 8–11-year-olds and is to educate children on the existence of dogger land/bank. The story is based in the Mesolithic period and shows a theorised idea of a tsunami that submerged dogger land and follows two characters and how they respond to the early signs of the tsunami. This story highlights some of the artefacts that led to the discovery of it. The use of the silent comic means there's no need for translation and many people can read the story regardless of their reading ability.

The comic has Augmented reality aspects showing the artefacts come to life. In an age where phones are used quite widely by this age group, trying to grab children's attention to printed publications can be a struggle. I aim to close that gap with projects such as these allowing children to use their mobile devices as an aid within the book.
